Lalo and Nieves Funeral Comm by Carterr.draws

A black and white half body drawing of two characters, Nieves and Lalo. Nieves is short and Afro-Colombian. She has long, very curly, black hair. She has a big smile and stars in her eyes. She wears a long coat and two pairs of glasses. One pair of glasses is on top of her head. This pair of glasses has a cloud shape for one lens and a half moon shape for the other lens. On top of her nose, Nieves wears the second pair of glasses. Lalo is tall and dark-haired. He is a white Colombian. He has vitiligo. He wears a tank top as well as glasses. He has a confused, worried expression as he looks at Nieves. The two are having a conversation, depicted through several vertical speech bubbles. Lalo's speech bubbles are on the left, as he is, and similarly, Nieves' speech bubbles are on the right, as she is. The first speech bubble is the largest. It's from Nieves and says, "Why do people have such depressing funerals? When I die, I want my ashes mixed with confetti and carmalized sugar candy and during the wake the lights go out and it's like a sudden goth dance party, all hora loca style and there's like multicolored LASERS EVERYWHERE in the middle of the darkness and I want everyone to put on these skelly costumes as 'Suavemente' by Elvis Crespo just BLASTS over the speakers and THEN just before the lights come back on, small cannons operated by magic hummingbirds launch my ashes-confetti-candy into the air. I just think it'd be neat." The next speech square is from Lalo and says, "What the fuck" The next speech bubble is from Nieves, an expansion to her first big bubble, and says, "YEAH! Celia, what'd you call it?" The following speech square points off screen. It is Celia, not pictured, but listening to the conversation. Celia's speech bubble says, "Embracing chaotic joy in the liminal space between life and death." Underneath Celia's speech bubble, Nieves has a third speech bubble which says, "EXACTLY! It'd be beautiful." The word beautiful is written in cursive letters, whereas the rest of the text in this image is print. The next speech bubble is from Lalo and says, "OR TRAUMATIC" Nieves' final speech bubble says, "Things can be traumatic AND beautiful!" Lalo's final speech bubble reads, "Every day I pray I die before you and this is one of the many reasons why."

This shows a screenshot taken on a cellphone of an Instagram post by artsymeeshee, the artist who made the drawing described below. We can see that the post has been saved to the user's account, and that it has been liked by users ty_the_humbl_bard64, mythics.academy and 92,122 others. The post is a black and white half body drawing of two characters having a conversation. The two characters are Dipper and Mable Pines from the show Gravity Falls. Dipper is a young boy with short hair. He wears a cap with a tree symbol on it, a vest, and a short-sleeved shirt. He is looking at Mable across from him with wide eyes, in what is a possibly concerned, possibly frustrated expression. Mable is a young girl with long hair. She wears a headband and a sweater, and she has braces. She's looking up with wide eyes, but in her case, she has an ecstatic expression and a big, cheery smile. Above Dipper and Mable is a text excerpt from Tumblr, in which one user named fluttertree42 writes, "why do people have quiet respectful funerals when i die i want my ashes mixed with glitter and packed tightly into a coffin and then they blow up the coffin with explosives so glitter rains down on the guests while blasting 'thanks for the memories' by fall out boy" A user named edgrieve (I believe that's the username, part of the text is cut off and there is a hint of another letter at the start) replies, "jesus god almighty" The drawing frames the first comment by fluttertree42 as though Mable is saying it excitedly, while Dipper says the second comment by edgrieve while watching Mable in concern.

In the original, unedited screenshot, there is a text excerpt from Tumblr above Dipper and Mable, showing a text exchange between two Tumblr users, which the comic portrays as occuring between Dipper and Mable. In this edited screenshot, the text exchange has been changed. Instead, we have text appearing in three different colors: orange, black, and green. I sent this edited screenshot to Carterr.draws when I commissioned the art of Nieves and Lalo which was based on this Gravity Falls drawing. Hence, the text here is meant to represent the conversation as I imagined it adapted to my characters Nieves, Lalo, and Celia. The text above Mable and Dipper reads as follows. Orange text (Nieves): "Why do people have such depressing funerals? When I die, I want my ashes mixed with confetti and carmalized sugar candy and during the wake the lights go out and it's like a sudden goth dance party, all hora loca style and there's like multicolored LASERS EVERYWHERE in the middle of the darkness and I want everyone to put on these skelly costumes as 'Suavemente' by Elvis Crespo just BLASTS over the speakers and THEN just before the lights come back on, small cannons operated by magic hummingbirds launch my ashes-confetti-candy into the air. Orange text: "EXACTLY! It'd be beautiful." Black text: "OR TRAUMATIC" Orange text: "Things can be traumatic AND beautiful!" Black text: "Every day I pray I die before you and this is one of the many reasons why."

One of my favorite all time comms from Carterr.draws! It’s based on a meme image I found on Instagram with Dipper and Mable Pines, which I’ve included here, as well as the edited screenshot I sent to Carterr as a reference image.
